MBC also added that the schedule still depends on the program of the baseball playoffs, which will affect the drama’s airing date.
“Depending on the results of the 3rd game of the professional baseball postseason playoffs, there is a possibility of broadcasting the 4th game on Friday the 3rd, so episode 17 of ‘My Dearest” is scheduled to be broadcast on Saturday the 4th.”
In addition, they also promised to improve and deliver production quality for the remaining episodes of the drama.
Interestingly, the broadcast network also stated other reasons behind their plan to make the series longer.
MBC furthered that they needed appropriate time to “unfold the story” between the main characters, which will surely keep the viewers engaged.
It includes emphasizing the love story of Lee Jang Hyun and Yoo Gil Chae, played by Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin, as well as the story about the returning prisoners, which gained a lot of sympathy as it unfolded in the second half of the season.
Why Does ‘My Dearest’ Part 2 Deserve More Episodes?
Initially released in August 2023, the historical K-drama depicts a beautiful love story between a noble woman named Yoo Gil Chae, played by Ahn Eun Jin, and a mysterious man named Lee Jang Hyun, portrayed by Namgoong Min, who appeared in their hometown during the Qing invasion.
Amid the devastating war where several of their neighbors and family lost their lives, they found themselves being separated before they could even start to open up about their true feelings.
The first season debuted with an impressive rating of 5.4 percent and wrapped up “My Dearest” season 1 with a whopping 12.2 percent nationwide rating.
Interestingly, the craze continues as MBC dropped the show’s Part 2 and is still at a double-digit rating for the first half.
Apart from that, “My Dearest” is also considered one of the most watched K-dramas in the second half of the year. This prompted lead stars Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin to secure the top spots on the most buzzworthy drama and actor rankings.
