Hwasa has been accused of “public indecency” by a parent-student association, gaining the attention of police authorities and her agency P Nation.

On July 10, Hwasa has been reported to the police by the Student Parents and Human Rights Protection Solidarity for “public indecency.”
According to sources, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul received a complaint from the Student Parents and Human Rights Protection Solidarity, starting an investigation on the matter.
The complaint rooted from Hwasa’s previous performance on May 12 at the Sungkyunwan University Festival, at the time of her recording for tvN’s “Dancing Queens on the Road.” During her live performance of “Don’t Give (feat. Loco),” Hwasa made an obscene gesture on stage, leading the Parent-Student association to file a complaint.
In their statement, the Student Parents and Human Rights Protection Solidarity has accused Hwasa of bringing an uncomfortable and shameful viewing experience to audiences. They also mentioned how the gesture wasn’t contextually suitable and necessary for the choreography.
“Hwasa made a gesture suggesting a perverted sexual nuance, and an act that was sufficient enough to embarrass, as well as shame the viewers who were watching her performance.”
“Hwasa’s gesture cannot be interpreted as art, since the gesture doesn’t match the choreography’s context.”

This led the Seongdong Police authorities to follow up a brief statement, announcing that if ever it was necessary, they may contact Hwasa regarding the matter.
“After reviewing the case, we are planning to call the accused if ever necessary.”
Meanwhile, Hwasa’s current agency P Nation has released their own take, stating that they are taking measures regarding the issue.
“We are internally investigating the facts of the incident.”

After seeing her performance, viewers were divided on their thoughts. People discussed whether actions are to be labelled as explicit or sophisticated. The performance gesture didn’t sit well with some netizens, as they called Hwasa out for her unexpected gimmick.

“She’s gone too far.”
“Are you that drawn to the stage?”
“Should you really do something far like that?”
It also caught the attention of Korean media outlets, which emphasized on Hwasa’s reputation if she continues with her “sex symbol” concept.
“A primitive behavior without the satire and humor. Criticism is inevitable with performances that leave discomfort with the absence of artistic meaning. Hwasa is known as an influential top singer, and if she cares about her impact or position, she needs to reflect on this.”
Meanwhile, there are others who supported Hwasa nevertheless, and claimed that she will always be in command of the stage.
