Another Korean film is about to have its tv series adaptation in the United States!
Jeong Byeong Gil’s “The Villainess” Goes to Hollywood
Yes, you read it right. The 2017 movie “The Villainess” starring actress Kim Ok Vin is about to have a TV series reboot in Hollywood.
The Korean culture is consistently dominating various entertainment industries not just in Asia but also in the Western part. On July 8, the Hollywood news Deadline announced that the Korean feature film, “The Villainess” is set to be adapted for television series and will be handled by Amazon Studios.
They also mentioned that the streamer is developing a small screen remake of the film with “Sleepy Hollow” and “Dynasty” writer Francisca Hu. She is expected to pen and produce the pilot episode of “The Villainess” adaptation. But they didn’t disclose yet who the actors are to play the main characters of the show.
In addition, Skybound Entertainment that produced the famous “Fear The Walking Dead,” has joined forces with Contents Panda since 2019 to adapt the film. Also, according to the report, the original director of “The Villainess,” Jeong Byeong Gil, will be joining the team to executive produce and helm the pilot episode.

Things To Know About the Action-Suspense Film “The Villainess”
“The Villainess,” tells the story of a deadly killer Sook Hee who was born as a killing machine. This film received lots of recognition during its broadcast for its magnificent and impressive action scenes. It also has been invited to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
It was also distributed to almost 136 countries, including the US., Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Scandinavia, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, and more.
Aside from Kim Ok Vin as the female lead, the action movie is also filled with a star-studded cast, including “Beyond Evil” actor Shin Ha Kyun, “Mine” actress Kim Seo Hyung, actor Sung Joon, and Jo Eun Ji.
The expectation for the forthcoming Hollywood adaptation is increasing. Before, Korean movies and some Korean dramas were inspired and adapted from a US-based show, but this 2021, most of the countries are expanding their horizon for a wider and versatile market.
Recently, Korean actor Park Seo Joon is rumored to star in the famous movie “Captain Marvel 2” alongside Hollywood actress Brie Larson, but there is no confirmation yet whether the big project collaboration is about to happen.
